Back to School Vehicle Safety Reminder

Dear Grand Hampton Residents,

As we gear up for another exciting school year, it’s crucial that we prioritize the safety of our roadways to maintain a secure environment within our wonderful community. You can find many helpful tips about vehicle and child road safety from the State of Florida at https://www.flhsmv.gov/safety-center/child-safety/.  Along with those tips, we kindly request your cooperation in practicing the following responsible road safety habits to ensure the well-being of our young pedestrians: 

Sidewalk Accessibility: Please be mindful of where you park your vehicles to ensure that sidewalks remain clear for our children to walk to and from the bus stop safely. Blocking sidewalks can force pedestrians, especially our young students, onto the streets, putting them at risk of potential accidents.  Blocking the sidewalk with a vehicle at any time is also a violation of the Association’s Parking Regulations and Towing Policy. 

Watch Your Speed: Let’s make a conscious effort to adhere to the posted speed limits within our community. Slowing down while driving not only reduces the risk of accidents but also allows for better reaction time, particularly when children are crossing the roads.

Approach Crosswalks with caution:  Please approach all crosswalks and intersections with caution and remain vigilant for any pedestrians crossing the road.  Pedestrians have the right of way at crosswalks, so always approach the area slowly and be prepared to stop if there are any pedestrians wanting to cross the road at the crosswalk. 

Be prepared to stop during peak times:  Remember the school bus stops are within Grand Hampton.  Both in the mornings and afternoons, several buses drive through Grand Hampton.  Always be aware of school buses and be prepared to stop when prompted by the bus to allow children to get on or off of the buses.  Never pass a school bus when its red lights are flashing, and its “STOP” arms are extended.
